shavings in oil? maybe?
questions probably been asked 1000 times but, is it normal to see some shavings (really fine) at the bottom of a bucket of your uses motor oil after draining into a drum? i always look after im done pouring the used oil away and i ran my finger acrossed the bottom of the bucket then got a magnet and there was a really really little fine metal shaving that moved. im talking about smaller then a tip of a pen. is it normal for some wear and tear on an engine with 187k? or is this bad?

I can't imagine any scenario where metal shavings in your oil could be a good thing. I send oil samples into Schaeffers oil occasionally to be analyzed and they search for and flag even the smallest (microscopic) traces of metal along with other sources of contamination.
I'm certainly no expert but, in my humble opinion, this could be an indicator of serious problems down the road.
Hope I'm wrong.....good luck.
