Saw the coolest truck today!
I'm at the Dodge dealership getting a coolant hose and happen to glance into the service area for a glimpse of some other CTD trucks......
A few of the mechanics were all standing around the open hood of this 2001 white dually with a big sticker across the top of the windshield that said 'Throttlejockey'. I snuck into the bay cause they dont like alot of people to go into the work area, and took a peek at the truck.
It was a 24v with a roots supercharger AND a big turbo on it all plumbed up together! I was like COOL!!
They said it was owned by this big black guy but he left it here for tire rotation. It looked like a hotshot rig with the fifth wheel tailgate and a big round fuel tank in the bed. bunch of stickers on it too. Who is this guy???!!

Re:Saw the coolest truck today!
I hope they were only doing a tire rotation...
I wouldn't even take my rig to the dealer for a tire rotation though! I don't trust those monkeys at all, especially with a bombed truck...

Wouldnt a supercharger be kinda pointless on the truck? they only have around 5lbs of boost so i thought, and would only be good for a slight second until the turbo took over?

I would think so... :- Now if it has twins, that would be a different story! ;D

No not really, it all depends on how it is geared. The advantage that a turbo has over a blower is efficiency unsing no power to run it. The advantage of a blower over a turbo, is no boost lag. Two cycle Detroits use the combo and I would guess that this is a combo from one of the different Detroit setups. I am sure that the blowers on the drag vehicles produce more than five pounds. The old setups used underdrive for street and economy and overdrive for power with an economy attitude of "who cares"

Re:Saw the coolest truck today!
blowers generally don't provide as much boost because i think the efficiency drops quickly unlike turbos. but i've seen an extremely modified lexus running 50psi of boost of superchargers.

I've also heard of this set up before. Cant remember who has it but I do remember that the truck puts out around 18 psi at idle!

Re:Saw the coolest truck today!
I still have a 4/71 blower that I picked up for a street rig. Ended up using a 6/71 blower. It is somewhere in my parts archives ;D I would be real interested in how he set up the drive for it, the rest is easy and it is naturally set up for side mount oil operation. For higher rpm operation they have to be set up for .010 clearence to avoid contact.
This setup would not be effective for street use due to mileage loss but I bet it would be a good alternative to the twin turbo setups. All kinds of boost and no turbo lag.
