Rpm gage works erratically

2001 dodge 2500 rpm Gage is going dead on me sometimes and truck loses power. When it starts working truck has full power. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance

Whats the build date of your truck?? Sounds like a cam/crank sensor. If your have a 2001.5 or newer its the cam sensor and its located on the back of the front cover just under the injection pump.
If its older than a 2001.5 its the crank sensor thats located on the side of the engine block just above the starter.
Skip the dodge dealer and go to cummins for a cheaper part. Or order online from a diesel store.

Should throw a code, too....check 'em.

And when you go to a Cummins parts house, save yourself troubles by writing down your trucks CPL number, its a 4 digit # on the engine tag behind the IP in the little box marked CPL (Control Parts List).

This will ensure you get the correct part the first time.
