Replaced Lifter pump, can't start truck..

So I trouble shot my issues with my truck and found the lifter pump to be dead, I was driving home late one night and the truck simply died. Had been running great till then though.

Yesterday I installed a new Airtex lifter pump and verified fuel was going to the inj pump, I then cracked the inj outputs and had fuel there but cannot get the truck to start for the life of me.

Any Advice?

Truck is a 99 2500.

Are you throwing any codes? It takes more than a little diesel in the tank and more than a few longish attempts to start after a fuel system change. Does your new lift pump pull power off the OEM pump wire? If not, then you will have a hard time starting. Of course with your truck actually dying with a bad LP that doesn't bode well for the VP44....

When cracking injectors you simply loosen the nut on the head right?

Definately have two people. Crack #s 1, 3, and 4 injecors open just a bit. Start bleeding at the injection pump, crack the line a bit and bump the starter but do not crank. Once you get fuel there, tighten the line up, and start cranking the engine. You should get fuel out of the injectors in pulses. The engine should start and run really rough on 2, 5, and six cyls. Once it starts to run, close up those injectors and she should purr. You need to find out your fuel pressure also..

I couldn't agree more with that. I put injectors in my truck the other night. And did appx what you said and the truck fired right up.

When you say crack the injectors do you mean loosen the capture nut or actually undo it and pull the line off the injector?

1 TO 2 turns loose. When it starts just tighten one at a time. It will sound wierd and rough. Then when closed it will idle fine. Good luck! T

Just remember to keep your body parts away from the moving parts.

that would cause a problem too. Good luck with the new install.

After seeing the how to step by step injection pump install. I think anyone with the proper tools can do it.
