Rear End ?

I was outside yesterday and had my truck parked half way down the pad my house sits on facing up hill. I was goofing off with my little boy when I notcied the dog run under my truck, I looked over to see what was wrong with him when I noticed some oil lokking stuff on my rear end. I walked over and looked under it and noticed that it looks like it is coming out of the front side of the rear end where the yoke that holds the U-joint goes into it. Is there a seal there that goes out and if so is it a pain to fix. I didn't have time to do much investigating because it was rite at dark.

Any ideas what this is?

I am sure there is a seal there, but not sure of any part number. Mine is a little darker color right at the front, kinda like it has leaked a little in the past. Someone on here will chime in w/info on how to fix it.

Its the seal where the yolk goes in the to the pumpkin. A friend of mine had to replace his. Im pretty sure you have to drop the driveshaft down and pull the yolk out and the take the old seal off and put the new one on then put the yolk back in and throw the driveshaft back up and there you go.

Hope that helps

You have a leaking pinion seal, rather common. Repair is as described in the previous message, but you have to be careful to tighten the nut in the center of the yoke to the proper torque upon reassembly because it also sets the pinion bearing preload. Don't just tighthen it on there without first checking the service manual for the proper procedure...

Thanks guy's, it doesn't sound like it's anything to complicated. I will definately check the torque specs before I do it.

I sure appreciate your help
