Rattling sound only when the truck is to the floor?
Hello there, I just bough my 1998 dodge diesel pickup and this will be my forst post, so hello and hi and i look forward to having fun with everybody here and making some good posts and helping out as much as i can.
On my truck, it seems like is has a lag around 2500-3000 rpm, a real lag. As soon as you put the truck to the floor, only right to the floor it makes almost a rattling noise, maybe the pump starving for fuel i was thinking? I dont know. You floor the truck, it rattles, go 7/8 it goes away, floor it rattles, 7/8 goes away. Clockwork everytime. What could this be, keep in minds that the truck has a HUGE lag when floored aroung 2500-3000 rpm until it shifts again and drops rpm. I was thinking the pump maybe starving for fuel when floored but i dont know. It makes a weird noise and it cant be normal.
And also, what is the pump wire tap, and how do i get through directions to do it? because if the rattling noise turns out to be nothing, which it probalby is not, i would like to pick up a edge juice with attitude to monitor my egt's and boost and maybe put some ummmph in the truck.
But first lets get the truck not to lag and rattle when floored.
Thanks a lot.

Have you checked your lift pump pressure lately? Chances are you are running out of fuel and the huge lag you explain is most likely dead pedal from a dead VP44. Take it to autozone and get the codes read for free. They dont always throw a Check Engine Light but will have codes stored.

VP44 is the injection pump, which supplies fuel to the cylinders. Don't ask how I know this ,but it is the weak link on 98.2-2002 trucks. The lift pump is what is referred to as a diesel fuel pump-same thing.
