I love how quiet the newer trucks are, compared to the racket my '99 makes I cringe everytime I start it up at 3am in the morning wondering how many neighbor curse my name.

So is there any way to quiet that big engine down w/o sacrificing to much?

park down the road?? trade it in? I like it cause its like a cheap alram system. Honestly though I did see somewhere where someone was making a "3rd gen" kit for our trucks, had under hood padding and a pad the wrapped around the oil pan?? IIRC

the 'new' trucks are quiet because of a pilot injection... you can add a muffler and all the insulating materials under the hood and you'll still get that lovely diesel clatter, maybe to a lesser degree.

You should check out ATP blankets. The oil pan, valve cover, and downpipe are the 3 biggest sources of noise, and the blankets do a fantastic job of suppressing the clattering. The hood blanket is mostly for Ooo's and Ahh's. www.atpwrap.com

drugs are bad mmkay!
I luv my 99 sound of power, My neighbors accept it because after Hurricane Isabel I yanked out 15 trees from everyone ELSES yards for free (just because I could )
Now those stooooopid rice burner fart mufflers...they're a different story, louder with no purpose.
