Question on the input shaft for the 6spd.
Sorry about the noobie question here, but when do I need to start worrying about shearing off my input shaft on my 6spd. I have my ATS 20% injectors coming and I am sure that propane and a bigger turbo will be shortly after that. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

An '02 H.O. 6speed? Yeah, J.R. is right, you have the oversize 1 3/3 shaft as standard equipment. PROPANE? I'd stay away from that if I were you, it blows head gaskets on the H.O. versions of the Cummins. Has happened to quite a few people. The regular output Cummins usually does okay with propane, mine did fine with it for over a year. Refills are $$$, and often. A bit much bother when you can hit 500 or more HP without it. <br> You have many, many sweet options on just #2 diesel alone, before even needing to consider propane. <br> Biggest benefit? Better fuel economy/less smoke, while towing a camper that you don't want "sooted up"....<br> We can o-ring your block for you, make it retain the higher pressure a little better. I still wouldn't advise it.

I second staying away from propane on an ETH, especially if your running a timing box. The only way you'll be safe is with a head o-ring job. This opinion is from personal experience, and from an informal poll from ETH/propane users taken on the TDR almost 2 years ago while trying to figure out why my ETH head gasket blew. I found 10 ETHs which had blown head gaskets - the thing in common with all them was use of propane. Most weren't using the drug when their gaskets finally let go, so it was difficult to figure what had actually caused the failures. Time has proved that propane is in fact, a killer of ETH head gaskets, especially when used with an EZ, or other timing box.<br><br>One myth which used to be touted around was that EGT's are lower when running propane. This is only happens at cruise. When Edge first started doing business back in 2000 they had a 3 level fueling box w/propane known as the Edge Pro. While testing the setup on Intermountain Cummins' dyno a 10 grand disaster happened to Brett's truck because the operator wasn't watching the pyro. Edge got out of the propane business real fast after that.
