Programer?

Programer?
Does adding a programmer or a chip alone such as the edge juice or the power puck or something like that hurt a VP 44. Will they lead to pump failure even if the pump is running under otherwise perfect conditions? I read on the diablo sport website that the VP 44 has a predetermined limit of volume that it can inject and some programers exceed that. Is this true?

if i remember right the VP44 for an SO is good for up to 700 HP but only about 500 HP for the HO. If your LP isn't supplying enough fuel to keep the IP electronics cool it can fry it....i'm trying to nurse IP along because of that. I wont be putting a programer back on untill i atleast have a fuel pressure warning light. Hind sight is always 20/20

ya no joke. I ruined a VP in like 13 months ha. I was convinced I had a bad throttle position sensor. WRONG. I will never again make the mistake of thinking that I am smarter than the code reader in the truck. Any ways. Theres no way I will make 500 HP with just a programer, an intake, and an exhaust i wouldnt think? so I should be good right?

yeah i think you should probably be fine. i've been lucky eough to have to replace the APPS ($560 at the dealer cause it's a manual. wish i would have know about timbo then) and now i get to do both my fuel pumps. yay for me. I will have this truck for 2 years in june and i have even more stuff i'm trying to nurse along till i gan get money to fix it (dang economy)
I've also heard that HO pump on an SO engine and reversed will "wake" the engine up, but i don't exactly know how true that is.

Does adding a box or programmer shorten the life of VP44s? Well, I don't know. I think the common sense approach would be that anything pushed harder than it's base setting would wear more quickly. I don't have anything to back that up though. I have seen bone stock trucks eat VPs in 20K miles and others live wire tapped for over 200K.
The VP44 can only move so much volume, This is true. And it;s not just the volume, it's the pressures and total duration that event is happening at. Sometimes, more is not more if that makes sense.
A wire tap is used on boxes (not programmers) to effect external control over the VP44 fueling circuit. Essentially, this takes an otherwise 60-65HP box into the 140ish HP range.
