Is the problem my heavy foot?
I've got a 2001.5 2500 4x4 Automatic. It's my first diesel, and I love it, but I got a question about accelleration.
There have been several times where I've put the pedal down (unloaded), and instead of going faster, the truck starts to slow down. What the engine does is hard to explain, it doesn't seem to be an issue of the engine racing and not shifting, it seems to just die, if I come off the accelerator and then go back on it, she picks up and runs.
So I guess my question is, is the problem my lead foot, or is it something else? There's been a couple of times where I've tried to get out of somebody's way, or pass somebody, and had a scary moment when the truck didn't cooperate. Always if I come off the accelerator, then back on it again (maybe slower) she goes.
Thanks!

Re:Is the problem my heavy foot?
check your lift pump, it sounds like the fuel is being restricted to the inj pump, you might need to replace your fuel filter. if its not the fuel filter then it is something else restricting the fuel flo. my best bet is the lift pump
I agree with everyone here, but I'd replace the fuel filter first, since it's about 20 bucks and less hassle than the lift pump, or taking it to the *******. I gained 9 PSI out of my system when I changed my fuel filter.
You should still check your fuel pressure, even if the filter helps.

Chris
Re:Is the problem my heavy foot?
I changed the fuel filter at 15k miles and 30k miles. I'm at about 31k miles right now. Could the lift pump really go bad that quick?
I just ordered bilsteins to replace the front shocks, so I guess my next step is gauges. I don't really have any other symptoms except that one, would it be easier to wait until I get gauges in and verify it's the lift pump, or will they check it out without a hassle?
Thanks for all the advice!
