Pressure washing precautions...
I just picked up a dually standard cab truck. I dont think it has ever been washed and it has had a few oil leaks all that time Im sure. Is there any precautions I need to take before I pressure wash the engine, tranny and the rest of the rig for that matter? Thinking I may need to cover an electrical component or something that might have a cronic moister problem. Thanks for any help in advance.

Cover the alternator with a plastic bag and don't hit anything too directly with the spray, it can blow water into stuff......
I usually use a steam cleaner or Castrol Super Clean and a hot water hose.

I'm really leery of pressure washing engines, and anything mechanical that has seals or electronics. The volume of water isnt a lot but the pressure is great. I use a engine degreaser, brush, and a water hose. Works great. But I still usually stay away from electronics.

Yeah, you guys are right! Think I will do the degreaser thing on the engine and use the HP Washer for the tranny and undercarriage. Thanks for the good advice.

Be careful using high pressure water around electrical components and the a/c condenser in front of radiator. I've seen many condensers get ruined because high pressure water was used to clean. It doesn't take much to flatten out the cooling fins on the condenser, this will prevent the cooling air from flowing over condenser.
