Power Loss Maybe Transmission?

alright ill start this off from the start. I bought this truck from a construction worker last year for 10k. the huy took the old transmission out and rebuilt it himself but never got around to putting it back in the truck and such due to injurys to his back. He went out and bought a new dodge diesel truck adn put this one up for sale for 10k in the newspaper. I swing by check it out notice that it has gauges all on the piller, gauges on a mount on the center of the truck on the floor board. temp for both exhuast and tranny, oil temp off the cooler, boost, fuel preassure, oil temp before it inters the turbo. I was amazed and the engine looked very clean along with the 5 1/2 inch exhuast back from the turbo. F.A.S.S. system installed and he had a box inside the truck with performance injectors labeled on it. 2 small propane tanks strapped inside of the tool box in the back of the truck with line going to the turbo. Edge III with the small lcd displat mounted inside the cubby whole of the drink holder section hidden away when the drink holder is folded ip. i start the truck up to be amazed on how strong it started wasnt even a whole engine turn before it caught on and rattled away. I rez the engine to fine a nice sellow sound of the turbo spooling up and unwinding. The truck seemed fine and all the gauges looked within tolerence except for the tranny temp it read 0 because it wasnt hooked up. I took the tranny out of the garage and placed it in the truck the day i gave him the check and started the truck up and droove it home without a problem. The thing haulled ***........well since then the truck has lost a ton of the power i felt while back when i first bought it and i have been having to add tranny fluid regularly because it goes low on the dipstick "in nuetral" and i cant find where it is leaking. followed it from the tranny to the cooler to the tranny and no visual leaks. The trans temp gauge always reads the tranny very very cold even after driving around for a while. My question is what are some things i can check to find out where i am loosing my power at. I miss it and it ****** me off last month pulling my boat to the ocean to find myself waiting all day from takeoff to get up to 45mph in the truck. it is acting like it has absolutly no power except when im on the interstate the truck will haul *** from 70MPH + with no problem.

Did you look at all the intercooler hoses to make sure one has not blown off? SNOKING

someone just asked me if i painted the rubber boots or the metal tubes that they connected to......the answer is i cleaned the boot off of soot and oil buildup and i sanded and painted the tubes... the black color made it hard to tell which is leaking because they all seemed to be the same... when i reconnected them there was no difference.....aswell i relized today my truck has ALOT more power taking off when im coming out of a corner.... if i take off from a dead stop on a straight away it takes longer to get up to speed then if i take off from a stop sign going right or left.....

Perhaps a fuel line got pinched with the tranny install, or the motor mounts are letting the engine pinch a line or stretch the rubber hoses letting them suck air.

Get ahold of a Chrysler service manual and pressure test the tranny. All the proccedures are in the book and easy to figure out. Also has a trouble shooting guide for when you get all the pressures. This will determine what the problem is and then can can address that one problem instead of throwing money at it. I had a this very problem with the mojave green tc. For the first couple of weeks it was awsome then went to crap. Did the pressure test's from the service manual and found to be TC failure. Thought NO WAY this thing is brand new and stronger than the stock TC. Well replaced it with a 89% DTT TC and mpg and power was back. Just my .02!

thanks i will run by there today after work.......

things to do.........
------------------------------------
check the preassures in the tranny
check resistance on MAP

things done already..........
------------------------------------
checked the intercooler boots and tubes for leaks
checked the turbo for play and etc
checked the fuel preassure with 2nd gauge "interesting thing here is the fact that when i first start the truck it start with NO problem but the gauge reads 0 preassure for the first 3 seconds then it jumps to 16psi and never moves afterwards.......F.A.S.S system"

things i still cant figure out............
-------------------------------------------
what causing my power lost
why fuel gauge reads 0 for the first 3 seconds
why tranny fluid is going low after 3k miles yet no visual leaks
why the power feels as it its there when accelerating from a turn unlike having no power accelerating from a straigh take off
why when u give the truck small spray of propane there nearly no difference in the power of the truck just seems to rev up faster to redline

Are you sure the tranny is starting out in first gear every time?

What year truck is it?

im not sure if it is starting out in first gear or not.......the tranny shifts so smooth i never know what gear i am in... i never had a hard shift unless i really mash on it and it goes into overdrive.

2000 Dodge Ram 2500
5.9L 24V Turbo Cummins Diesel

but yeah more on the dealership deal i ran into friday.... i went up to the part counter and asked if there was any way i can get the troubleshooting guide and preassure ratings so i can check the tranny for faults and they basicly told me a long drawed out story on how they pay such and such amount of money a year to have that system and info and they cnat just give it out to the public for free.....told me afterwards they are more then happy to run diagnostics on the truck ....i told them the on off key gave no codes and he like your not suppose to know that and you cant go by that its not very accurate... and crap

3 shifts sounds proper...except for the fact that "visually there should be 4 shifts. 1-2 shift, 2-3 shift, 3-TC Lockup, and 3 Locked-4 shift.
