Possible turbo problems
I have an hy35 and yesterday I took off the air box and hose for my new scotty II and tried to spin the turbo blades and man they were fairly hard to turn. I was wondering if this was normal or if it should spin fairly easy. By the way the truck was turned off

That doesn't sound right. Mine spins freely. Wonder if the bearings are coked or something. How much boost do you see when you floor it? How quick does it spool? What are the EGT's reading at WOT? Cruising? Is your pyro pre or post? What temp do you shut it off at?

Re:Possible turbo problems
My comp boost guage only goes to 35 psi and it blows past it. I do not have a pyro guage, only boost and trans temp. It spools up fine, but I am seeing a little more black smoke than usual. I am guessing it just a matter of time before she goes to the big turbo heaven in the sky.

Re:Possible turbo problems
I've had access to my turbo twice (1st time to install the Banks and 2nd time to install Scotty II) - both times the turbo spun smoothly and freely. There was around 46k on my truck when I installed the Scotty II.

After it's been sitting a while and the shaft seems hard to turn, pull the oil supply line off the top and squirt/drip/pour some oil in then spin the shaft again.

If it spins substantially easier.....ah ohhh Call Piers and get your dream turbo!!! (or this one repaired) bearings aren't happy. Hurry with that EGT gauge!!!

If it doesn't spin easier.....Call Piers and get your dream turbo anyway!!! I'm really expecting that it will though.

Re:Possible turbo problems
I assume with a HY on a 01 getting 35 # you must have the wastegate turnbuckled open. According to Bill Heath @ Turbo-master 31-34 is ok with stock. I have his new boost controller on my HY and am running 32# initially. He said with my comp and stage 2's, I could crank it up to 38#. I'll probably try it once the roads thaw out a little around here.
Tim

no. When I got the comp box it came with a boost fooler elbo and I drilled and tapped the housing then cut the steel line and run a rubber hose from the wastegate to the elbo.

Re:Possible turbo problems
I'm not sure. Bill seems to think with the mods I've got 38 is OK. I will have to try it. Worst that can happen is I smoke it and get a Piers.
