Possible Injector Problem

Okay, so there I was rolling down the road and i hear a definate change in the tone of the motor. I then try and keep a constant RPM at about 2200 rpm's and i feel the truck hesitate ( for lack of a better word) and then surge as if it was trying to defuel. Also, I have been noticing an obviously unusual ticking especially when accelerating and a more engine noise. I have been running mach 4's for almost a year, but I really don't think they could be faulty or dirty. So my question is could I have a bad injector?

I don't have any codes on the truck. And the edge comp was off and then tried with it on and both weilded the same results.

Typically, A bad stick will give a good amount of white smoke.

It could be a stick, but they would need to be tested to be certain. Send them over if you like and I will go over them.

Thanks Don, I just finished installing the stock injectors and there is no ticking, white smoke or change of engine tone, however it is amazing how you get used to more power so fast. Now that the stock injectors are back in it I want the Mach 4's back. The mach 4's had some build up on them but I can't say (for lack of experience) that it is excessive but if they do have excessive build up it is probably because I need a larger turbo

Don can you IM me where to send these and I will gladly pay for your time and labor. Thanks Justin

I had similar symptoms as you describe right before my VP died.

VPs die without throwing any codes at all.

Man, I didn't really want to hear that! But the thought had crossed my mind. It runs alright witht the stock sticks in there now, but maybe they don't work the VP44 as the much as the larger injectors? therefore wouldn't show symptoms. I don't know I guess we will see.

Don said they checked out OK(thanks). I changed places where I get fuel and that didn't seem to make a difference. I have since adjusted my valves and that made the engine run a bit quieter. Number 6 was off a little. Also the wheel speed sensor went out and I replaced that and it hasn't done any surging since. But every now and again I still hear a clicking noise but it comes and goes intermintantly. When it Ticks I just turn up the radio.

I am also wondering if the winter fuel blend is playing a role in this.

VP is a weird bird......it can pop the P0216 or not!!! The ones that dont pop the code, though, are usally a hard start condition. If you get surging, more times than not you will see a code (Maybe not the P0216...but something pump related). Did you take your VP harness off recently? Check if its on all the way. IF so, look for any signs of gunk in the terminals. Might want to blow out with some air and electo cleaner. I have had that happen to me before. ALSO check you Comp Box Gnd/Pos. wire connection. If that comes loose.....you will loose power!!!!

ALSO i feel beter that i have Mach II's under my hood...........
