PO460, P1693 codes

PO460, P1693 codes

my friend has a 01 5sp 2wd. 2-3months ago it was stock, and he would be going down the road 60-70ish, and then it was like you would turn the fuel off, and then at about 35ish it would come back to life and run fine, for awhile. He took it to several local mechanics, and none could find anything. He then took it to Floor It Diesel, in Lawrence, ks, they ran some tests, and found that the injector pump was bad, lift pump good. He ended getting: Edge juice w/ attitude, fass fuel system,vp44 pump, big exhaust, BHAF
Now his factory speedo will show speed like normal, but edge speed jumps all over the place, it throws the PO460, P1693 codes when he cycles the key 3 times, etc I forget how to get them, but he can get them. Also it is still cutting out bad, and Floor It wont answer his phone. Nothing against John Issac, maybe he was up to his elbows in grease, and couldn't answer his phone.
If this was a powerstroke, I would suggest a bad cam sensor, what should he do, what do the codes mean?
BTW, he says if he lets it idle for 30+ min it would run fine, but shut it off, and 'here we go again'

I just had both those codes. I had hard starts, warm or cold and I had stalls while driving.
I replaced the vp44 and they're gone. tell your friend he has my sympathy.

P0460 is not VP44 related...i have 0460 because my stock fuel gauge broke and i never fixed it. it will read full for many many miles then all the sudden read empty for a week...then read full again.

no, the 460 isn't. p1693 is defined as DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM, which means nothing but Diagnostic Trouble Code detected (kind of a redundant code).
I had the 1693 confused with 1689, I should've double checked and I apologize for the confusion.

our server went down when i responded to this thread...and it wiped it.
What i basicly said is check the fuel level. He might be low on fuel.
What is the RPM doing when this issue happens? I have had a cam pos sen go out on mine and it was a dog! BUT a code did pop in the ECM. AND the MIL lit.
I woudl always double check the "Key Method" with a scan tool. I have had, on more than on occation pulled codes that the Key Method didnt show. Nearest free scan is an Autozone away. Or just get one...they are pretty cheap now.
VP.....though call. Mine went to hard starts and didnt pop a code once. These things do weird things...but a lack of power issue, you usally see a P0216 every time. Tough call....my opinon....run it into the ground.....most times a VP will get worse......
