P1693 means that you have another code set and that you need an OBDII scanner to extract it. The key on/off trick is a waste of time.

pretty sure 1693 is the companion code. Meaning that there is a code in the system that can be read with a scanner. Thats what mine usually does. It will give me 1693 and then i will go to autozone or advance or som and their scanner will show a code. It always did that when i had the VP death code as well as the code that came up when my APPS quit on me.

1693 indicates you are looking in the wrong controller
The pcm and the ecm work together so depending on which controller logs the 1693 code will determine where the real code is.
