P0341 code error

I don't find much posted about this error code on this forum...but am getting conflicting opions on the fix for this problem...the code says it is a "camshaft sensor" error and my diesel machanic tells me it is an injector pump problem...any help from you guys would be appreciated.

Put your Truck info in your signature block so we'll know what year, info, and mileage you have.

P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor Performance / Rationality (from a web site). Sounds like the CPS uses a comparison signal, but I don't know without my book right now.

It is not uncommon for these sensors to go out with time. It is between the VP44 and the block. Kind of a pain to R/R them unless the VP pump is removed. Does the Tach work?

BTW it is a $50.00 sensor or a $1000.00 VP pump.

I replaced my cps and the installation wasn't too bad. I had to remove my starter to get to the sensor and used some pliers to pull it out. My truck ran rough and when first starting the tach would run normal for a second then the engine light would come on and the tach would drop to zero. I have a tuner with diagnostics that pinpointed the problem.

Thanks guys...I will replace the "cam sensor" to see if this cures the problem...yes the tach has once or twice went to zero then works again.
