Talking P0216, Excellant Dealer Experience

Well truck went to dealer today for low fuel pressure issue, as recommended by you guys, THANK YOU TO ALL. No check engine lights. I check for codes periodically with the key cycling thing, no codes/faults appeared. So dealer calls this evening, they found the dreaded P0216 code fuel injection timing. Replaced lift pump, took truck and drove it, so far so good. Dealer wanted to drive truck home to verify code didn't return, I ok'd. Also found front crank, engine cover seal leaking, will replace tomorrow and possibly Vp44 if the code returns. So will all that said I have 2 things.
-100k engine warranty, gotta love it! FREEEEBEEEEEE
-Has anyone else ever had codes show up on a scan tool, but not show up on the key cycling thing?
P.S. gave the dealer $140.00 to flush cooling system. Thanks to all you guys for your wisdom and guidence, Tye

Not personally, but have heard tale many many times.

So often, that I always include that tidbit when telling the newbies about the key on/off thing.

i have a DRBIII just like the dealer uses. When my pump went out I took the truck to the dealer on a Saturday. They never got it started. I told them what codes I had and how long I had them and how many times I cleared them. They just ordered a new pump and installed it. They never did any more diagnosis, just took my word for it. Shocked the daylights out of me, but proves what happens when you have a good relationship with the dealer.

OK, thought maybe you were having problems. Mine was still good at five years, nice and clean in the radiator. I change brake fluid, power steering fluid, and clutch fluid every year too. All gear boxes get a two year changeout too.

Just something I noticed.
The code 0216 is an injection pump code for failed timing control. The lift pump has nothing to do with it directly. A failed lift pump will contribute to a failed VP-44 but when the code is set they should check the fuel pressure and replace the throw away injection pump.
I know, they are rebuilt, but they don't really fix the issue of a junk design.

Glad you got it going!!

True, True. But after replacing the lift pump the flow was fine, but the code came back, and another thing, the check engine light never came on???

The timing in the Ijection pump is controlled by a solenoid valve that allows incoming fuel pressure to move the advance. Extremely low fuel pressure such as a bad lift pump or clogged filters will not allow the advance to move. The injector pumps have also had problems with the electronics controlling the advance solenoid.
