Oil pressure and Operating temperature
I have a 99 with a mannual trans that I just got the famous 53 block replaced. My questions are when the vehicle is warming up my oil pressure is about 60psi but when at operating temp and crusing down the road it stays the same. The presssure changes to below 40 psi when I idle at a stop sign-Is this normal? Also what should be the operating temp 180-190? Thanks

With an isspro oil pressure gauge, I have seen up to 75 PSI on cold startups and driving for the first half-mile, while cruising it runs around 40-50 (if i remember correctly) and have seen it drop as low as 23 at idle after towing heavy on a very hot day in the desert. I read somewhere that the cummins spec was around 20 min at idle a few yrs ago when I was concerned about it.
I have noticed that the oem gauge is actually pretty accurate. Your oil pressure sounds normal.
