Oil Creeping

I'm a 3rd Generation owner and ever since about 10k I have noticed a oily film kinda creeping around between the valve cover and cyc. head. It's on both sides of the engine. It's not a leak, it just collects dust and it very easy to see. You guys with alot of miles on your engines is this normal? Thanks

Well I've never heard of oil just "magically" appearing on the block, unless some was spilled during a fill. How do you know that you don't have a leak? If you clean it, and after a while, it comes back (no filling), that sounds like there has to be a leak. Have you tried looking to see if anything is loose? Just trying to point out the obvious.

I'm guessing that your truck is still under warrenty, so I'd take it to the dealer and make them check to see if you have a leak. You might have to pay a diagnosis fee, but if they do find one, and after a deductable, then problem solved. Just my $.02.

Good luck,

Hunter

If I remember correctly, I did have to pay around $50 a year ago when my old 98 12'ver had to have the rear main seal and pan gasket replaced . I was glad to pay for it considering the work they had to do fix my leaks.

I am a master tech for Volvo and perform warr.work on a daily bassis.what I would do if I were you is simply clean the "weaping" oil area and wait for it to turn into a serious leak ...if it does at all. I have had to deal with this in the past and all that can be done is to wait for a perminant fault aka a real leak. Just tring to save you some steps and a deductible fee.
