oil capacity in NV5600

I've got conflicting information on the gear oil capacity of an NV5600 transmission, 2002 model. Time to swap the oil out. Anybody know? Thanks.

The local Dodge dealership says it is 9.5pts for the NV5600.

The 5600 is a very strong transmission with one weakness -- it tends to chew up the synchronizers if you're not careful, especially if you don't treat it like a truck transmission. NVG is aware of this and changed the synchro materials in the '02my, but the recommendation I got from one of their repair consultants in Muncie was to change out the fluid every 20K miles, and use a synthetic lube of equal or greater quality than the DC recommendation. He also suggested that I install an Eaton filter assembly to tie up some of the floating synchro shavings that are inevitable with this transmission -- it's available from Geno's Garage.

And yes, I know all about the "official" DC/NVG warranty recommendations for this transmission. The guy I talked to in Muncie owns the business that rebuilds warranty returns to NVG, and NVG reps referred me to him -- so take it for what it's worth.

I changed the 5600 fluid at 5K miles for break-in, and it was pretty nasty. Installed the filter, used Redline MTF, and at 18K and 41K, the lube looked real good. Might be overkill, but there are a number of people on this forum who've had some 5600's blow the synchros and lock up -- so it's insurance to me.

I just did mine. I used 2-quarts of RedLine MTL and 2-quarts of Redline MT-90 to get the viscosity right. It sure shifts easier now. When putting in the last quart, it started to run out of the fill hole right at the end, so four quarts will do fine. The manual says 9.5 pints dry fill.

Just out of curiosity, how did you figure out using a mix would work and what difference does it make?
Maybe I will try it on mine.

Redline actually suggests a 50/50 mix of MTL and MT90 on their website for pretty much every manual transmission used in the Ram except the 5600. They suggest straight MTL for that, which seems surprising. I'm thinking Rattle_rattle is on the right track with upping the viscosity for the heavier-duty 5600, which is probably what I'll do when I'm ready to replace my fluid here shortly.
