Oil Breather
I have an 02 that I thought had an oil leak since the front of the engine and radiator was coated with oil. But after further examination it looks like it's comming out of the breather bottle( I think thats what it's called) near the front of the engine. Is this normal? The truck has 7K on it and is mostly used for towing so I run it pretty hard. Does anyone have a good fix for this, or should I complain to the dealer next time I'm in for service?

Thanks

Re:Oil Breather
Yes this is normal. I took mine off. Bottle, tube and bracket and threw it away. I took a 4 foot piece of 3/4 heater hose "black" and put a clamp on the tube coming out of the front of the block the other end I looped over the throttle position cover "That black plastic odd looking box" and then I let the hose run down the side of the frame to just on top of the u-joint for the front. I just let it hang. If you look under you can see a little hose sticking down this is OK with me. No more oil dumping all over the front of the drive belt. What a place to dump oil right on a serpentine belt. The only one we have. OverFueled

Thanks for the info. I'll re-route so it's less messy. Its dumpig oil all over the front of the engine, belt, and radiator :. If they would have lowered it a few inches, it would be much cleaner.

I lowered mine with a hose extension down to the front swaybar, mounted horizontally and cover it with an old sock to absorb oil vapors that will still blow out of the bottle and make a mess - just as removing the bottle and allowing the oil to drip freely - as some do - still will make a mess on your undercarriage or garage floor - the sock absorbs all excess, and is easily discarded and replaced each oil change...
I carefully cleaned the engine and undercarriage when I made that change, and it has stayed perfectly dry and clean since then, and not a drop of oil on the garage floor!

Re:Oil Breather
I did mine basically as Gary. I remounted outside the frame in front of the swaybar. At least in this location the mess stays out of the engine compartment, it's easy to remove and dump, and real easy to get at for cleaning now 8)
