Odd AT shifting behavior

I recently bought a 2001 3/4T diesel 4WD with an automatic. I have notice an odd shifting behavior when running at about 35 MPH on a level street with O/D enabled. If I very slightly press the accelerator, it shifts into a higher gear; back off slightly and it shifts into a lower gear. This seems backwards of what it ought to be doing if it's going to be changing gears. I don't see this behavior when cruising at 30MPH or 40MPH.

Is this shifting pattern something that is "learned". If so, can it be "unlearned" by disconnecting the batteries for a period of time.

Re:Odd AT shifting behavior

Are you sure it isn't the lock clutch engaging?
