O/D off button stuck

I always turn the O/d off until about 55-60 mph. Then kick her into O/D. Well I was driving down the road with O/D off, got up to speed, and went to kick her into O/D, and the button is stuck in. Had to stop and put it in park to get it into O/D. Now I can't turn the O/D off. My truck shifts so much better with it off until about 55-60.

I went to the dealer and was going to buy the whole shift lever, but, they said you can just buy the button. Which I will do. $23. How do you get the button off the end. Does it just pull off or is it screwed on? I have messed with it but not much luck.

Thanks!

EDITED previous post. Decided to not be so lazy...looked it up in Service Manual.

-Pry it off end of shift lever with a plastic trim tool or flat edge of some sort.
-Pull out the switch and connector from the shift lever (there is enough slack in the wiring).
-Pull switch from connector (held in by 4 pins)
-Holding connector, plug in new switch
-press new switch back into shift lever.

Very simple.

Can you please post the part # for the switch.
I, like you, use it a lot... off Hwy and mine is starting to require harder push to block out OD.

Local Dodge dealer closed down so will need to call OOT dealers to see if they have the part!

Thanks - RJ

My life is never easy. I got the part out and the new one didn't fit. So, I have a couple friends with the same truck, We pulled there's out and the new one I bought fit in both of their trucks. I had the right part for the truck but no fit. Well after a few days the dodge dealer ordered a "O/D button" for a 2002 Ram 1500. Sure enough it was the one I needed. Seems when they made the truck, that they put a 1500 shift lever on my 2500.All fixed now!

That's a first, in my experience! Service Manual pic showed 4 prongs. My new and used had 2 prongs??
When I pulled mine out... the wiring socket was stuck inside the shift lever... would not come out easily and did not want to yank on it. I just plugged in my new button switch and all worked well.
I did not realize how worn my switch was. Anytime I had to use it I had to visually check to see if it 'switched'. Now all I have to do is breath on it.

Sorry for your headache.

New one I bought also had 2 pins on it.(The right one for our trucks) But there was no where to plug it in down in the shifter. My shifter had two wires that came out the end, and come to find out it was for a 1/2 ton.(totally different)

Mine was wore also, nice and smooth now.
