NV5600 Lubricant?

Would AmsOil 5w-30 be a good oil to put in a NV5600 6-speed? My friend said Amsoil 75w-90 but that doesn't seem right at all.

For an application that calls for Dexron II; Would Dexron III be okay to use?

Re:NV5600 Lubricant?

Yeah. The Dexron II/III question was for my 241HD-PTO transfer case. Is Redline MTL a widely sold product that most Auto parts store prolly carry?

I went to the Redline Website and they stated this

"Red Line MTL is classified as a 70W80 gear lubricant "

Would this not be the same as using Amsoil 75w-90?

Re:NV5600 Lubricant?

The Series 3000 5W-30 HDD is what Amsoil recommends for the NV5600's...Hope this helps.
Gear Poet, 106K on my NV4500 with GL5 and no probelms...Not even a fifth gear nut. Amsoil's GL5 has a buffer in it that takes care of the yellow metal problem.

For NV5600 Texaco MTX 1874 is the recommended fluid.

Re:NV5600 Lubricant?

I installed the Amsoil 5W-30 HDD in my NV5600 when I had 5200 miles on the truck. Now have over 48K miles many pulling my 12K lb. 5er. Trans still shifts like new. This was the lube recommended by Amsoil Tech. Services. I checked the product data sheets for both lubes and properties were almost identical.

Re:NV5600 Lubricant?

I would not use the Amsoil 5/30 engine oil in the NV5600.

The viscosity index of the Amsoil is 175
The same for the Texaco is 208.

The high viscosity index will lubricate the NV5600 from 40 below zero to plus 300 degrees and still remain viscosity stable. It also contains a fluidity modifier.

I like the Redline too.

Don~
Re:NV5600 Lubricant?

I ended up finding Redline MTL at a nearby auto-parts store. Thanks.

I just installed a BD short throw shifter and genos **** for my BD break and figured it was a good time to change the fluid. My service manual calls for "mopar manual transmission lubricant" since I had to go in to pick up a set of tow hooks any way I picked up the fluid at the dealership. They said when their techs change the fluid it only takes 3 qts. I said I wanted 4, when I go to the cashier she tells me its $20.99 a qt - full synthetic. After draining and adding all 4 qts it came out of the fill hole. Project completed. Then my buddie reads the back and it says it is "formulated for the nv4500." Is this the wrong fluid and do I ned to get knee deep in the dealeership? Should I add an extra qt totaling 5?

I'd drain it and talk to the dealer.

The 4500 fluid is too thick for the 5600.

The 5600 fluid is closer to ATF in viscosity, while the 4500 fluid is more like a gear oil.
