NV4500 suggestions
Well, 5th gear went out two days ago and now it's time to take it to a trans shop to repair. I can save $300 if I remove and reinstall it myself. The shop owner said I can supply all parts for the repair and only pay bench time so I wanted to know what you guys would recommend showing up at his shop with when I go. I know about the updated main shaft and retaining nut so that will be two things. What about bearings, gaskets and seals. Since it's going to be cracked open I figured I might as well have them freshen up whatever they can on a budget. I really don't want to spend more than $900 and that includes the $300 quoted for the bench time so that leaves about $600 for parts. The truck has 85,000 miles on it now. I don't do any towing and mostly drive to and from work at highway speeds. Thanks for any suggestions.

If it has never had the nut changed to the split lock I wouldn't change the shafts.Mine had 63K on it when I got from a dealer and the nut was backed off the dealer sent us out for Pizza and when we got back it was done for a 2wd its easy fix in the truck 2 hours at the dealer. and if you read up on it you should be able to do it your self with out taking it out.
