NV4500 fluid. GL-4, GL-5 ???
Hello;
I'm changing the fluid in my transmission for the truck in my signature.
NV4500 5-speed manual transmission.
I'm asking around on here to see what you guys think I should use.
All my previous changes have been with the factory-stuff from the dealer. however, Castrol stopped making Syntorq. There is a Moper offering but it's $26 a quart.
I have had good luck with Valvoline synthetics in my differentials, and am thinking about using it (Synpower 75w-90) in my NV4500. Here is my concern:
This oil says it meets GL-4 and GL-5. I remember years ago that when GL-5 came out it was a major NO-NO to put this in the NV-4500 as it has additive that corrodes "yellow metals", such as the brass-alloys that are used in this transmission.
But now I'm hearing that if the oil is marked for both GL-4 and GL-5 that is has been reformulated and is safe for my NV-4500.
Any thoughts on this?
Hoping for quick responses because I left the trans empty last night and wanting to refill today.
Thanks in advance for any and all replies

As far as I know, there aren't any reproduced oils that meet all criteria of the factory fluid. Mixed reviews on amsoil, but the factory stuff (even at $100+) is the best, IMO. Should be good for 50k or more unless you pull real heavy often.

Quad has the correct stuff for 15 bucks a quart.
QU90020 NV4500 TRANSMISSION OIL 1 QUART in Shop Supplies: Lubricants
Castrol SyntorqLT 75w90w Full Synthetic Gear Lube
It's how I would go anyway.
