Noise making me crazy!
I have noticed a noise coming from the Passenger front side of my engine compartment.
The sound is definetly coming from the area of the air conditioning compressor. The noise gets louder every time the compressor cycles. I think it might be the bearing. It sounds a bit like a belt would sound if the sheave was out of round and was rubbing on the edge of it. Its a bit "tinny" sounding.
If I turn the Air or Defrost off, the sound goes away(almost).
Turn it on, and the sound gets louder.
The biggest problem is that today is raining and on my drive to work (aprox.1 hour drive), I did not hear anything.
On days its hot or at least not raining, it starts up after I have been driving for about a half hour or so.
What gives?
Anyone else think its the bearing for the compressor?
Dealer is only 5 min. from my house and I just cann't get it to do it for the service guy.
Any other ideas?
Want to try another Belt, but if it was the belt, I would think it would do it all the time. The noise actually has kinda a loose or worn belt sound.

How about removing the belt to see if it may be the tensioner or something along those lines.
Takes 2 minutes to pop the belt off and then you can give everything a good spin by hand and get a feel for the situation( no pun intended).lol

Usually if it is the bearing (which is used all the time not just during a/c use) it will make noise all the time. If you get a noise when the a/c comp loads it, this might be the compressor or a tensioner/belt issue. Rain will make a belt quiet sometimes and squeal like crazy others. If the belt is dry sometimes tranny fluid will take the squeak away (long enuff to sell it anyway )
