No throttle response!Fuel pump?
While driving down the freeway my engine cut out and died! It started up and had no throttle response! I think from what I have read, the fuel pump may have passed on. Any advice on this casualty? If it is the fuel pump how hard is it to replace in my garage? I am mechanically incline and do have tools! It sounds simple but I am looking for tips and advice. The shop is going to rob me with time and parts! Any advice on what kind of fuel pump I should buy if it is the pump?
Its worse than I thought, dodge is saying both fuel pumps have died and are eztimating me 4500$. Any advice to a do it yourselfer? Where can i get the parts and for how much?

Average IP price is around 1100$ do yourself a favor and buy a FASS or airdog, (airdog is 500ish and comes complete with EVERYTHING, and has a lifetime warrantee, Fass to I think) It took me about 2hrs to R&R the IP and it was the first time I had ever done it.
even buying a LP &IP you will save 2800$ if you DONT let the dealer work on it
read and watch this thread. I saved it awhile ago there maybe a better thread somewhere else, do a search for Diesel-dan as he was the person who put the how to video together

Reading some of your responses, I was able to start the truck and crawl at idle to a parking lot. How do I know if my lift pump is the only thing that I need to replace? I am going to replace both anyways but for troubleshooting and time how can I find out if my VP44 is ok for now?

It does sound like you lost the VP though.

Also cycle the key three times, without turning it back to the off position. On the third time watch your odometer, it will display any codes the truck might be throwing followed by " P DONE". The codes will help diagnose the problem.

You can get the entire Airdog system for not too much more than that. PM Lary Ellis (Top) and you can buy it from the DTR.
It's worth a shot, get the Airdog and install it. Install it and see if the truck will run, if not then you can get a new IP.
If your from MD we can help ya install anything in the Cave.

I am curious what actually went out. When I was researching the internet, "THEY," say that if the lift pump goes out, the injection pump can pull enough fuel from the tank to remain at idle! My truck will start after some cranking but wont go above 900 RPM's? I think that I might replace the lift pump and see what happens.

They are correct the lift pump dies (we will assume that you dont have a fuel pressure guage in the cab). In most cases, the injector pump cant supply enough fuel to lube and cool itself. It will run awhile - but its a crap shoot. Your Injector pump is likely shot. If you dont have one - you absolutely need a fp guage in the cab - it can save you thousands.
Do yourself a BIG favor and put a better lift pump in. The Stock lift pumps are plain junk. Look at a Airdog or Fass unit. Yes, they are quite a bit more $ but they have very good warrantys. The Airdogs have a lifetime warranty on the pumps.

I have heard a lot of good things about the AIR DOG and the FASS, I will have to do some research but definately am not going to go cheap. I am thinking about the Blue chip FIP, its 1900 +/- it is supposed to add 2-3 mpg which is not that bad.
How does BIO DIESEL effect this system/these pumps, ie.. Lubrication, GPM, HP, MPG?
