New VP44, now rough idle (sometimes)
i've had my new pump on a couple weeks now and whenever i get done on a long (30ish miles is long to me) trip and i sit and let it cool down it'll idle rough like it has a slight miss or its getting air or something.
it just did it again tonight so its dark, but maybe in the morning i'll check for leaks and such too. but when i put just a little fuel to it, as little as 1000rpm it smooths out.
any ideas? i was thinking i'd call the place where i got the pump and see what they had to say as well

From: My head lays down in Murrieta, but the day light hours are spent in San Diego, Ca.
I have the exact problem every now and then. But I started running 2-stroke oil in every 2 to 3 tanks full and the problem has seemed to disappear........

I've had this problem for nearly two years and 30K miles after VP-44 replacement (with the new and improved mechanicals and electronics package) - slight miss at idle, gets a bit worse as the ambient air temperature climbs. Never thrown a code, have replaced sensors, injectors, overhauled electricals, tested computers, etc. Engine runs well, gets excellent mileage, no problems with power or lag.
Outfit in South Dakota that rebuilt and replaced the unit tells me that rebuilders across the country see this fairly often. Has to do with close tolerances of the pump, and "acceptable wear" of parts that must be reused in the rebuilding process - cases, pins, etc. No rebuilt VP-44 will ever function "like new", in other words. I verified this "point of view" with 3 other reputable rebuilders.
Still not sure I believe it - but I am sure I don't like it.

ya my truck got that same problem after my new vp44. but then a couple months later my low fuel light came on and stayed on. my lift pump died its at the shop getting a fass right now. i told them about the rough idle and they think it might be from low fuel pressure. so once they get the fass in ill find out if that was it. do you have a fuel pressure gauge. i just have the light im thinking maybe i was just above when the light comes on for fuel pressure. any ways maybe its not got enough fuel pressure just a guess.

heres what II told me i have a model built for automatics and they have elimated the lope caused by older pumps ?? I am to the point where i am going to just drive it and see what happens. All the vendors blame the other vendors for differant issues. you never get a straight answer when you call and talk to them and emails are a waste of time. My parents once told me that customer service is a lost art and i tend to believe them

Its not about a vendor blaming another vendor on this case. HRVP's, from any vendor/manufacturer, are known to have idle issues.. He wasn't trying to state its "their pump" thats causing it, just the fact that it "is" a HRVP.
Unfortunately its a hit or miss deal and no one knows why some can get away with a perfect idle but most end up with it being lopey/varying.

thats where II says differant ?? I was told flatout that because of a new design in the pump that it wont act funny ? now this is there product abd they should know better than anyone correct ?? could II be misinformed about there product ??
