New VP44, anything else?

Looks like I will be doing what so many others have, installing a new VP44 in my truck sometime in the next couple weeks.

Question:
Are there any other services that are a good idea to do while the IP is out?

I believe the Cam sensor is behind the IP so I plan on changing that. Of course I will put in a new fuel filter, etc... Any other jobs that I should think of doing at this time?

Also, I am wondering if my VP44 is original or not. I imagine not but u never know!

it currently has a tag on it that reads: Made in Germany, R5013925AA, and also has the code M022304 (or maybe M022804, cant tell if its a 3 or an 8)

Thanks!

If you get a cam sensor, make sure you get OEM Cummins, not aftermarket, otherwise you might be changing it before the original would have failed........If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge, now is an opportune time to add one.

Thanks for the input.

I have a good lift pump and guage(check sig) This setup gives me 17-19 lbs at idle and no less than 11 at WOT. Really happy with it, very cost effective solution and has been trouble free to 4 years,

Thanks for the tip on the cam sensor, I will get an actual Cummins part from either the Cummins shop in STL or maybe my local Dodge dealer can get it.

That is what I thought about my crank sensor. The sensor in the truck when I bought it failed. I replaced with a Cummins part. That failed soon. I figured that since I was having to change them multiple times, I bought a no-name lifetime part that is still working. Sometimes you get lucky.
