new VP & LP, made 20 miles then died
Replaced dead VP44 and lift pump in 98 1/2. Drove 20 miles and died. Blown ECM fuse. Replaced fuse and it blows immediately when ignition is on. Could it be a bad ECM?

I would unplug both of them and replace fuse. If good plug one in starting with the lift pump and see which one blows the fuse. Check all the wiring around the one that is blowing it. IF wiring looks good it may be a bad VP or LP with some kind of internal short. Is the LP intank or aftermarket?

# 3 fuse the one blowing? Check carefully for damaged or pinched wiring. Might try disconnecting the VP44 connector and see is problem goes away. Since that is new part on that (#3) circuit. The fuel pump relay is also powered by #3 fuse. So pull the fuel pump relay and see if problem goes away also. It is unusal for ECM to short circuit internally.

I agree. I doubt its the ECM. If you did not have the problem before the vp44 and lp were replaced its either one of them or a pinched wire to ground.
