Hey Phox shouldnt that have read not for use in 2007 or newer?

Went to Wally world today to get some PS and empty shelves
So i looked around and bought a bottle of MMO. put some in the tank to tide me over until i can get some PS.
Where can i get some, anyone know.

 

The wording on the sign should say:

LOW-SULFUR HIGHWAY DIESEL FUEL
(500-ppm Sulfur Maximum)
WARNING
Federal law prohibits use in model year 2007 and later vehicles and engines. Its use may damage these vehicles and engines.


Which goes with what Phox said about 2007 and newer having emissions devices that would be damaged by the higher sulfur content.

Wally World was one of the few to demand a recall on PS due to unclear labeling.
(unclear to the trailer livin' big haired folk that frequent the evil empire I guess )

I've seen it at Autozone and Pep Boys around here.

I was at the Cummins dealer yesterday, shelves of additive in any brand you want including PS. I asked a couple of different folks there what they have heard on this and they gave me the same answer of the additive being mixed in at the factory and so far nobody was worrying about it.

The part I find odd about this is for years my local Cummins dealer did not recommend the use of additives and now they are stocking it? I wonder if its just the difference in dealers? I will be picking up filters soon and have to take note while I'm there.

It might be hype, might be BS, might be a scam by the anyone and everyone, who knows.

What I do know is that the $2000 or so that I would fork out for a new VP will buy me a lot of additive, even if it's just for piece of mind. The fuel side of the equation I can't control, from the pump forward, I can control it and I will.

I dropped 50 Grand plusfor this truck, a few extra $$ or so per tank for a splash of additive is cheap insurance.

The life of the VP seems to be a luck of the draw thing anyways, it will die when it wants to. My truck has had additive since the very first tank of fuel. One day out of nowhere at 50,000 miles, the truck shut off, no code, no warnings, no nothing. Just died and coasted to the side of the highway.

I know it will happen again. I'm at 100,000 now and it's only a matter of time. Could be today, tomorrow, 5 years from now, but it will happen. Additives are cheap!!

Going to stand in the corner now........

I believe I read that the new ULSD had some type of cleansing property, in that it would loosen any accumulated crud and send it on to or thru the filter. Geno's is selling a new filter (FS19800E) 7 micron that is supposed to be better for trucks using the ULSD fuel. I am calling this a 'new' filter but it is just new to me, I don't know how long it's been around.

BTW- I believe the old filter fs19579 was a 10 micron. New filter is a little more $ and listed as being for '00-'06 trucks.

This has been a very interresting thread to say the least and a subject I have pondered on a lot but one problem I have had over the years is that I can't really see how adding a few onces of anything to 35 gallons of fuel or gas or what ever will have much affect. But for the record until I learm it's safe without it I will continue adding PS to my fuel, but deep down I think it's for peace of mind.

 

Run B100, three years on B100 with no problems. BD is great for lubrication.

 

You sure it didn't say for 2007 and newer? The ULSD has to be run on trucks with the particulate filters. LSD doesn't work as it will clog them up fast.

I have been reading on the additive stuff for the last year plus and the additive being put in at the distributors is a ULSD thing because(and I don't remember why) it can't be added at the refineries.

The comment about shrinking gaskets is real. Cummins came out with a service bulletin about the some lift pumps lower nikasil gaskets not expanding with ULSD as they did with ULD and they can leak. Mine did and I had to replace it.
