New injection pump observations....

Well I installed the Cummins Recon pump, took a shower and picked up my trailer, went to work. 1300 miles later here are my observations.

At shift points the smoke is much less with the RV275's and EZ.

The mileage is slightly less :-

Can't tell about the power, about the same, no seat of the pants difference.

Starts just a little sharper.

The new pump is somewhat louder from the outside and light throttle (cruise) has more engine noise.

The straight pipe sounds a little different, maybe deeper.

Pulling the egt's are a little lower, all but full out on a mountain.

It takes longer for the EGT's to cool down after running. A definate difference, takes longer idling to shut down.

Fuel pressure on the gage post filter is a little lower so it must use more wot fuel.

Slightly different subject, on the way home the truck blew a turbo boot off. Put it back on tightened real good. Did it on the shoulder of the freeway, two cops went by, never stopped to see what I was doing. REad police protection

Re:New injection pump observations....

i thought mine ran exactly the same performance wise..it definitely smoked less at WOT and i agree w/ the egt's taking just a few extra moments to drop...but the most positive thing, it ran again!!!! it was like losing a son when she croaked on the freeway!! happy to see your back in biz ;D

Is it true the Ho pumps last a lil longer because of some internal changes? and would a SO get more HP with a HO pump?

I spent some time reading any material regarding using the Ho pump on my engine. There were just enough negative reports to keep me from trying it. In my case I could not take the chance that the pump would not work out. Now this may sound contrary to popular feelings, but my truck at this time has enough power, considering my use, the power train weaknesses, etc. I possibly may go for a larger turbo for several reasons, but other mods will be for reliability more than for power.

I have the Ho pump, and feel it has more power than before, plus seems to accelerate a touch faster. I am happy so far.

Very interesting post, my two piece bracket was on, but the bolt was not in it, had to find another one for it. At least I tightened it well.

A stock SO will gain about 30 extra HP by going to an HO pump. BUT, anything much over a set of stage 2 injectors and a COMP, and the HO will start losing power to the SO.
