New FP gauge - now new lift pump
The whole reason behind the monitoring fuel pressure was to keep me from biting the big one with a new IP. Put my westach gauge in Saturday morning. Was very dissappointed to see that I had 9 psi idle, and 1 psi WOT. But also relieve that I caught it before major damage. I hope! Called Napa to see if they had the Carter lift pump. They had one for $201.00. I told him I could buy one off the internet for $129.00. He came down to $125.00.
Putting it on was a new experience. It is not located in a very friendly place. Also... I had a pin push in on the pigtail they gave me. Tryed pulling it out and it broke. Since they only had one in stock and I wanted my truck fix I cut the old connector off the bad one. Hated to put a crimp in circuit. This brought my pressures up to the following:
Idle - 13.5-14.0
Cruising - 12.0
WOT - 8-9
I still think they are a little low. I have heard as long as there is positive pressure going to the IP your alright.
Next time I do this I think I am going to take the starter off. What a pain in the tail!

I just did the same as you, new lift pump and Westach fuel pressure gauge. I've got 12.5 idle, 10 at normal acceleration and 9 at WOT. I was told these numbers are fine.
I changed my lift pump from above. If you take the filter housing out, you've got a clear shot ... very easy access!
Glad you caught it in time!
Which wire did you tap for the gauge lamp?

I tapped the same wire the trans temp gauge used. I did not install that gauge. I just went right across the light in that gauge. Sorry you had to change your pump. What did you pay for yours?

piperca,
I do not know the record of the Carter pumps, but they come with the pigtail. My pigtail had a problem though, for what it is worth. At some point I am going to get my lamps for my gauges on the dimmer circuit. I was just in a hurry this weekend! I noticed on your profile that you have a 53. How many miles?
About 3 weeks ago I had my crack repaired with Locknstitch. Completely dry so far.

blh1960, I have 123K on the truck. I bought it approximately 2 months ago. The pump and pigtail have been fine. I, too, will be tapping into the dimmer fuse for the lamp function ... it's easier than looking for the right wire Those fuse taps are a God send!
I read your thread when you had the problem with the block ... sorry you had to go through that. I am keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't happen to me!
