New 15w40 oil, how old is too old?

I need to do an oil change, and at work we have too much new 15w40 stored at our location, so we have to get rid of some. Question is, the manufacture date is goes back as far as 1998 thru 2004. 5 gal cans are still sealed. Would this oil still be ok to use?

Nope, you need to dispose of it properly, please ship as soon as possible to Streator Illinois for proper disposal......

Man, grab every bit of it they will let you have, your 01 will love you for it, it is only the newer DPF trucks that require CJ4.

Major score, unlimited shelf life.

Under new EPA regs some companies such as the one I run have to reduce their quantity stored or go into a different classification.

We had to get rid of about 400 gallons of perfectly good oil...........

But then again, it is being repurposed as IP lubricity agent as we speak.......

Boy that EPA is sure looking out for us aren't they. Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall just to hear them discuss the new concept laws/reg's that everyone will have to comply with. Its stupid by the time it gets to the books so I cant even imagine how crazy stupid it is as they drum them up behind closed doors.

CI+4 is WAY better than CJ, regardless of brand, more or less. I still have about 20 gallons. I think the Valvoline 15w-40 CJ is about the best in the class. It is endorsed bt Cummins, works for me. Delo, rotella are a good plan b cJ.

One thing you should watch for is the additive package in that oil settling to the bottom of the buckets. I have seen it in oils around the 10 year range. Our rep says he has seen it sooner. I have used oil that age with no problems and am using it right now. Got the same kind of deal. It helps when you work in the industry. All I am saying is check it before putting in your engine.

Would something like a paint shaker resuspend the additives properly?

It would think so but not sure how long it would stay mixed if you left it in the bucket. I never tried to remixed it. It poured out just like oil when it was put in our waste oil tank
