how many quarts does a full auto trans system hold

Just had mine flushed and it took 28 qts. til clean. Haynes manual says that a 4x4 47re trans takes 22 qts. when completely empty, about 4-6 when changing filter.

Wish I could say exact, but I have a double-deep pan and a different TC, which may or may not hold the same amount. I have put in 14 to 18 quarts, depending on the cooler. The last time I was in there I put in 14. Just get 2 cases of fluid and you'll be OK.

I just had mine R&R'ed & changed Torque converters.(New one was already partially filled)
We didn't drain the coolers (other than remove all the lines and let gravity take care of the residual.
It took ~15 qts to refill.
