Need precise directions on valve cover removal

I have a 2000 cummins and am (trying) to change my injectors and am having a problem just getting the valve cover off because of a clearance issue at the firewall. I have done searches on this site and the only thing mentioned is " try the pry bar method ", " this takes most of the time needed for removal", and other helpful advice along theses lines. I am hoping to get more precise directions for the removal. Also, what type of lube should I use to make sure the injectors do not seize in their holes. I would appreciate as much detail as possible.
Thanks,
Jason

I would put a piece of cardboard over the insulation on the fire wall as to not tear it, pull all the bolts out of the cover, tip the cover to the exhaust side and start workin' it...it will come out.

I find the paper floor mats we use at work to use as a "guard" that high country mentioned to work great. Make sure the gasket stays on the head and you'll have to manuever the cover over the heater hose, and then reach under to guide the one bolt around the rocker and forward.

It is tricky but not impossible. When I pulled mine to do a valve adjustment, I pulled mine up slightly, tipped it toward the exhaust manifiold, and pivoted the front of the cover toward the passenger side. This enabled me to work the back end loose and out of the way. I did rip my insulation because I left a bolt sticking up . Oh well, live and learn.

When I adjusted my valves, I removed my cover, and replaced it from the intake side. Takes a little bit of maneuvering, but came out easy nonetheless, and no tearing of insulation.

Thanks guys, finally got the dumb thing off. I contorted this thing every way possible and had 2 other people helping and it then and only then it came off.
Insulation made it through ok now I guess I'll paint the High Ram and the valve cover.

When I tore mine I ripped out that entire patch of insulation. So far so good with it gone.
