Need new PCM (no alternator)

Well, after exhausting all my options, it looks like I need a new PCM for my truck.

Is this something where I can get a used one from a junk yard or do I need a brand new one from the ***********?? Can I order it online?? Maybe Dave Smith motors?? Anyother options cheap??

Thanks guys

Chris

Found the info from Infidel. Next question is can I run a jumper to test my theory that it is the PCM and not the alternator. If so, which wire do I jump to on the alt plug

ok, I installed the external VR this afternoon and thank God, I am getting charge now. It is going up and hovering around 14 volt now though. Is this a bit too high??? Mal alternator is getting quite warm also, but that could be because of the hi draw from tha mostly dead batteries

Is the VR adjustable? 14.75V is the MAX it should ever put out. alternators do get hot so thats normal.

no it is not adjustable. Runs at low 14 all the time. 14.05 14.08 never over 14.1

Where are you? VR's are temperature sensitive to account for battery chemistry versus temperature. Colder temps mean higher voltage to keep the batteries charged. Voltage output ranges from ~14.4 in arctic conditions to ~13.7 in summer desert conditions.

14 volts is fine. I've seen stuff up to 14.5 volts and never any problems. It's when they start putting out 15.5 or 18 volts as I have seen on one.
