I need an ECM for a '98.5 24 valve, 5spd, 2wd. The dealer killed mine in a reflash attempt and I ain't paying for a new one. Will a later model unit work? And does it matter if it comes off an auto? As I'm sure it will need to be reflashed to my VIN and mileage anyway. I've found one off a '99 manual that I assume would work as the 98.5 is an early version of the 99. Right?

Coincidentally,the K01 reflash on my '07 5.9 killed mine. The dealer bought me a new one. Mine retailed for $2,000 w/dodgeparts charging $1500 or so. Pretty good discount. Yours looks much cheaper.

My dealer won't cover it as we think it had a Banks tune in it. Just traded for the truck and it would not let me put in my Hypertech tune. So I can't really blame him as the Banks tune could have pulled the plug on the brain as it was downloaded from the ecm. But I ain't paying for new one. The link above doesn't list the one I need , maybe can repair mine though. Will check into it. Mostly need to know if a unit from a '99 would work since it will have to be re flashed anyway.

99 uses the same part # for the ecm.

Thanks guys. Got in the ECM the dealer mechanic told me to order. Turned out that he didn't kill that one. it was the firewall module. He now says I needed the engine ecm and didn't tell me the wrong one. Have the card in front of me that says otherwise. So i had the truck picked up and sent to a dealer 100 miles away. We have confirmed the problem is the engine module and have one on the way. We'll know in a couple days if it fires up! Athens , TX has no deisel competent mechanic evidently ! new mechanic says the reflash never should have touched the engine module. Gotta love computers! Think I'm going back to a first gen.
