NAPA Filters

Is it safe to use NAPA oil and fuel filters on my Cummins? I do use the gold and heavy duty series on all my equipment and have good service so far.

What do ya'll think????

The NAPA filters are made by Wix. They are a quality filter.

Napa is a good filter but they will not flow as much oil volume as a Fleetguard.

There is a picture floating around out there that shows the Napa Gold and Fleetguard side by side.

I don't know about the flow, but the NAPA filters have been used on my Dodge & Ford diesels without ever having a filter related problem. I do use the fleetguards on my Big Trucks because I get a better price on them from my truck parts business. I have used the Napa ones on big trucks too without a problem. I think it is best to stay with the Napas, Wix, or FleetGuards. They will all do you fine.

Ditto on the flow......while I won't deny the filtration ability of the Wix, they do have a flow issue....I have used them in another application and actually got a pressure drop post filter compared to other filters which would indicate a lower flowing filter. The flow drop may not always be an issue depending on the application but for this particular one it was.

I just don't see any good reason why you shouldn't be using a Fleetguard 3894 Stratapore filter.

I've always the fleetguard with no complaints. The only reason, NAPA is 2 miles from the house, I buy all other oil, fuel, and hydraulic filters there on my business account. Buying a fleetguard means driving 30 miles or ordering off the internet and keeping up with a receipt for expenses.

Geno's does have good prices and quick shipping.

Thanks guys

Thumbs down

Go with FG

I just recently had an issue with a Napa Gold Air Filter. The seal was not as thick as OEM so it let air in around the edges. I opened the box to clean things out and discovered a dirt ring that passed the perimeter seal on the clean side of the filter. After I noticed this I took off the tube and noticed it was in there too... impeller on the turbo had dirt on the veins. I cleaned everything off, went with a different filter (Amsoil EA) and changed the oil.

I intend to send a complaint to Napa but after I get my oil analysis back from blackstone.

The way I see it, you purchased the best engine which deserves the best filters. I paid a fair price for the Napa Gold ($39) and I would have been better of getting the OEM filter from Dodge.

Looks like there was no harm although I did see/clean dirt on the intake side - after the napa filter. I'm happy to see though that it has not done any harm:
