Miss on cold start
Hello All,
So my truck has developed a new habbit....
When starting on a cold morning (say below -15c) it misses. Sounds like 2 cylinders not firing for first 30-40 seconds then 1 for a while longer.
After a couple of minutes it runs perfectly smooth. Never misses a beat once it's warmed up or if outside temperature is a little warmer.
Background:
- Truck has reman VP44 - by previous owner
- I'm running Airtex lift pump - 17 PSI at idle
- Around 190,000 km on truck
I'm wondering if it isn't time for some new injectors!?!
I've also been putting off adjusting my valves (probably never done before - not sure) because it's cold outside.
Anyone experience this before? The old girl sure doesn't sound happy for that first few minutes!
Thanks

The 3 cylinder idle feature is not enabled on my truck... at least it's never done it before.
I've had this thing for 4 years and this is the mildest winter yet!
The missing when cold is realtively new.

For what its worth.
My 01, on a cold morning when not plugged in, will hit and miss and goof around a LOT. This is with new injectors, reman vp44, and good fuel supply. It will even do this when plugged in, once the temps drop into the -35 and below range.
It almost sounds like it can't decide whether to high-idle, cut cylinders, deliver fuel to ALL the cylinders, or just have a nice nervous breakdown.
Its been doing this since I put the last VP pump in, and thus far, I have detected no damage. Oil pressure is still good, engine hits on all 6 after about a minute. Then it ramps the idle, and knocks the cylinders down like its supposed to.
I have no suggestions at this point, however, should I get time to track it further, I'll post what I find.

Well, I guess I'll just let this one go as another strange thing my truck does!
This morning... -22c ...started up just fine and didn't miss at all.
I think I'm going to check my fuel system for signs of water.
