miles at vp44 failure?

Died yesterday. 85000 miles. 2 psi at idle on LP, 0 psi at any RPM above idle. Was checked 3 weeks ago, 15 psi at idle, 12 at WOT. Selling truck, getting an '04 or '04.5. This is obviously not a freak occurance.
Cummins sales manager says he replaces many during winter, this was in Fargo, ND. Schoolbuses, Dodge,RV's etc. Cummins wants $1500, Chrysler $2700 for VP44. Thankfully it's under warranty.
Definitely do not want to own this mill after 100,000.
Neighbor has identical truck. VP-44 and LP replaced at 90,000 one month ago.. No mods. Replaced LP again last week.
