Have there been any improvements made to the VP44 for the 2002 models?

I thought I heard there was some re-engineering of it and increased its reliability.

look at your hold down bracket on the back of the pump..they are all broke and cause early failure- buy the newer 2 pc braket...stops pump failure...that from rumor controll at the top.

I have no idea if mine has been replaced... but my rig has 175540 on it when it finally bit the dust...

Mines runnin 138000 and some and its on the origional no problems. no symptoms anyway haha. Its a stock trucks so i guess it could be shot and not know it

1st pump 124000 (last 24k of that was on a box, with good lp press) 2nd 30000 , 3rd 6000 , 4 th is leaking diesel like a tin can blasted by a shotgun( did it the minute i started it ! ) i love cummins and hate vp44s

Mine still runing strong with a little surge in 5th and 6th not sure why at 45,243 Curious have any of you guys ran anything in your fuel to increase lubericity. Think thats the word? Im running a lucas addative.

105000 on mine,factory injector pump,no problems,replaced the lift pump @ around 60000,it didn't go out,It was within specs but I felt better replacing the lift pump,truck has been bombed since 10000 miles.

130,000 on the original VP. Switched out the original LP at 125,000 - didn't fail, but was living on borrowed time. All this on an early 1999 truck.....I will say my prayers now...

I started using Stanadyne PF on my last tank. No real data to report performance wise yet. I have noticed a slight increase in cruising pressure from 10 psi to 11.5 psi. Idle pressure up about 0.5 psi to 12. Kinda goofy, and want to get more miles with the stuff to see what is going on. It certainly didn't hurt!

78,000 on the first one, 2,000 on the second, and I've got about 1500 miles on numer 3, so that leaves me about...........

Why that is pretty dramatic,some last a long time and like magnum,3 injector pumps,why such a difference?

84000 ish miles on factory pump as far as I know. I bought the truck with 54000 miles. I want to put a box on it but am to scared to see if it will kill the pump.

That would be the last thing I would worry about,mine has been on since 10,000 miles and I have 105000 on it now,original injector pump,I went out last night,2 degrees outside and checked the pressure and it was almost 19 psi,I was happy to see that,I have gauges but I wanted to be sure it was still working

My 01 has 44K on it with the original lift and injection pump. I replaced two this week at work. Both had bad lift pumps and both had around 120K on them. Neither of the two appeared to be very well maintained.

When your VP-44 pump failure throw any codes into your computer. I'm fighting with dodge to replace mine. I get 0215 and 0216 codes. The truck stumbles and struggles to accelerates. It has stalled a couple of times. I have lots of fuel pressure generally running around 15 psi. My last fuel pump died and it was to cold to stop and fix at the time. I tried to nurse it (about 5 miles) to a gas station and put in my spare lift pump. I'm at 50000miles and on my third lift pump. General I don't let the fuel pressure drop below 12psi during operation. It doesn't take much to damage the pump.
