I ordered a engine rebuild kit and it came with Mahle pistons. I've heard there was a particular brand to stay away from and one to get but don't remember the names. Has anyone heard of Mahle or know anything about them?

MAHLE is what came stock in my BMW (and others). Probably one of - if not THE best - OEM piston manufacturers in the world. Sleep easy tonight.

I agree with what Louie has told you about the Mahle Pistons. They have been doing alot of R&D on the Cummins Pistons and diesel pistons in general.
They offer different types depending on your specific application and their pistons seem to be well built.
