Magic T-stat

Since the day I drove off the lot with my 99 it has run straight up at 190 degrees. Then the other day it hardly moves at all. No problemo, the T-stat is stuck open so I stick in a new one and discover then that the new one and the old one both 180 degree. Also the old one is closed when I take it out ??? So if it had a 180 in it for 3 yrs. why did it run at 190 ??? If it was stuck open why was it closed when I took it out ??? MAGIC ;D Well what ever it was it runs good now at 180 and I'm a happy camper 8)

Re:Magic T-stat

So how come so many people want the 180 t-stats? I didn't think there was that big of a difference between the two. Seriously, what's the big deal about 10 degrees? I swear, I'm not trying to be smart, but I had always thought that this subject got much more attention that its worth. Is there something I'm missing?

Re:Magic T-stat

I agree with you Jack, everyone wants a 180. I just replaced it with what was already in it. I live in Tucson Arizona and it gets really hot here in the summer so every 10 degrees can help. I don't know why someone living up north would want a 180. If you keep your truck in good service and don't abuse her (to much) you shouldn't have any heating problems at all. I've got 195 stats in other cars and when it's 114 degrees out, stop and go in the city, sitting at a red light with the AC running full blast it puts your cooling system to the REAL test. You learn real fast out here that you have to lift the hood and check things out OFTEN or your going to have a problem. 8)
