Exclamation loss of pwr, reduced smoke, and boost

Well like the title says. WOT the boost is down from the "bombed normal" of 30-32 psi to about 24-26 psi. Power loss very noticeable, I cant get it to smoke as much as it used to and during these low power the tranny shifts sooner with a softer shift. OK however, at about 75% and more throttle and close to 70-75 mph (about the same rpm but only at this road speed, never in a lower gear) the power "hits" like a nitrous hit, all the power comes back boost jumps to the normal, trucks pulls like before. I hae a check engine light for map sensor voltage to low too long. IIRC according to the smarty. Could a map actually do this? Dunno if I should mess with it or get a new sensor. Would cleaning help? Friday morning I am driving to Az and pulling my loaded trailer. dunno how it will do towing now. Help pleeze!!

Possible.Pull the MAP sensor and have a look. They do get dirty with mileage. If so ... clean or replace and see how she goes.

The sensor can cause this. Have never cleaned one, just replaced it.

I can't get the map sensor out. I dont have all my tools with me yet since I'm moving from Florida to Arizona. I did manage to blow an intercooler boot and convinced the wife to buy me some upgrade boots, heehee. Anyways what size socket do I need to get the sensor out? I know I need a deep one just not sure of the exact size. I'm guessing 1.25"

Been 2 years since I replaced mine, but I believe you're right - 1 and 1 quarter deep socket.

Chrysler upgraded the MAP sensor because there were so many problems with it - this applies to the '02 model year; not sure if it applies to '01 - but don't be disappointed if cleaning it does not help. Cleaned mine, didn't work, replaced it with the upgraded sensor and the new harness that goes with it, and haven't had a problem since.

MAP sensor can easily throw fueling off on our trucks. Check the plugs for corrosion, the slightest amount of "green death" can throw a code and put the truck into Limp mode. Yours doesn't sound this drastic, but ya get the idea.
