Loss of power at 3k +
I put on a lot of miles and while passing today on the highway I punched it up over 3k RPM (but not redline) and got an odd surging/miss, then for a while at about 2500 sustained i'd get an occasional "stumble", returning this afternoon the truck was smooth as silk but I didn't wind it up for fear I'd be calling a towtruck...vp44, or any other ideas???...I've ordered gauges but they haven't arrived yet and when they do it may be a while before I get the time to install them...(82k on the odometer)
TIA

You need to check fuel pressure. Using that much throtle you might be starving your fuel pump cuase it is on its way out. if fp is good try and check for codes. Over 2700 rpms the truck will defuel but it shouldnt stumble at all, it should just fell like it wont go no more, like you hit a peak and it just holds there.

I'd say to check your fuel pressure post filter. Possibly a clogged filter not flowing enough fuel when you get into the upper RPM range. If this is happening, then you're slowing killing your IP due to lack of extra fuel for cooling/lubrication.

See if anyone in your area has a mechanical gauge they could hook up to one of the schrader valves on your fuel system to check the pressure before you get your gauges. Even in the filter checks out, the lift pump could be weak so a fresh filter might not solve your problems.
