Loosing Fuel Pressure

noticed tonight i am loosing fuel pressure at the gauge, got the sender after the filter, seems to go to 4psi set there a while and come back to 12psi idle and driving, got about 6k miles on the filter, should i do the filter again or is the pump shot? got an all stock fuel systm so if it is the pump where is it located and if i got to replace it what is a good upgrade thanks

I had the same problem with a stock Carter engine mount (just behind the fuel filter mounted on the block) You could have an in tank pump if it's ever been replaced by the dealer. 12 psi idle and then down to 6psi, back up to 12 for days and then back down to 6. Changed filters no change. Changed LP and it's now 17psi and never below 13psi.

I would highly look into aftermarket upgrades for the LP. Fass, walbro, air dog, holly the list goes on and on.

Good luck.

Intermittent (sp?) fuel pressure like that sounds like a lift pump that's ready to die. Replace the pump with OE or do an upgrade. I would steer clear of an in-tank set up if I were you.. I bought a FASS (with my vp44) but haven't installed it yet. I've done two lift pumps so far...

Try Geno's garage. They make a nice relocation kit which also replaces the banjo bolts to the filter. Removing the stock LP is not a problem and you can do it in an hour or so. I was imtimidated at first and took my time, but it was fairly simple just a PITA to reach in there.

I went with the Aeromotive AE11203 which is a 16 psi pump and very stout for appx $175 at Summitracing.com

It stays at 16psi at idle and rarely goes below 10 psi at WOT and stouter pump then the Holly blue. Of course FASS and Raptor are the cadillacs for our trucks and very good quality.

ok got the airtex and big line kit on and truck running looks like 17ps1 at idle 15+ driving and around 10 wot, pump is relocated with the big line kit and did the line from the fuel filter to the vp also dropped in an new filter, truck has no leaks but doesn't seem to want to fire up as fast as it used to??? did I miss something or is there a slower fireup with the pump farther from the engine?
