Long Term Drivetrain Question

I've got a 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton truck, and I know I'll be dealing with the tranny before I finish my payments. My question is, before I do anything-what are the options I have? I'm getting by as it is, so I'm not looking for expensive-but rather the most economical-best quality for the buck.

I know that the short term answer is a torque converter, an additional tranny cooler, and something else...that I forget what its called-but has to do with the torque converter. Do ya'll have any suggestions on any of this?

Also, for long term-what's the probability of anyone switching their AT for either an allison or a manual tranny? How much did it cost ya? What manual tranny did you use?

Have the tranny serviced with new fluid, filter, and band adjustment. That will add life to tranny. Perhaps a rebuild when necessary with upgraded VB and stronger converter will sufice.

As Dozer** said, that's good !!

Get a Goerend Valve Body and Torque converter and you'll be fine with what you have.
Do the job yourself and save even more, it's worth it.

I plan on changing the tranny fluid when its recommended-along with the filter and band adjustment. Is there a specific filter and fluid that fairs better than another brand?

Why do you recommend the Goerend brand?
